This is an online only (virtual) training course that offers an overview of common firearm types officers might encounter in the course of their duties. Revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, shotguns, semi-automatic rifles, lever action rifles and bolt action rifles are covered.
The course includes a PowerPoint slide show that corresponds to the training video. The total viewing time for the video is approximately 20 minutes. For viewer’s reference there is also a downloadable PDF version of the PowerPoint presentation, perfect for use in taking notes. A course syllabus and extra reading resources are also included in the training materials.

This course is a personal-knowledge-only (no continuing education or in-service credits) program. It is recommended that the student officer view/attend the following courses before viewing this one:

Course Objectives:
- Upon completion, the student officer will be able to identify the two primary types of revolver
- Upon completion, the student officer will be able to identify the three common types of semi-automatic pistol action
- Upon completion, the student officer will be able to identify the common characteristics of both pump and semi-automatic shotguns
- Upon completion, the student officer will be able to identify the common characteristics of bolt action rifles
- Upon completion, the student officer will be able to identify the common characteristics of lever action rifles
- Be able to articulate the primary safety protocol for handling unfamiliar firearms
